History:

The first settlers of Hampton Township in Allegheny County arrived in the mid to late 1700's.  In search of better game in the forests and more plentiful animals (for the fur trade), hunters and trappers moved north of the Allegheny River.  Many roads in the area bear the names of early settlers such as James and Robert Sample (Sample Road), William and Henry McCully (McCully Road where the High School is located) and John McNeal (McNeal Road).  John McCaslin obtained a large section of land presently known as Oak Hill Farms and a new housing development now bears his name (McCaslin Ridge).   In 1861, Moses Hampton, LLD, a judge and member of Congress, signed the documents necessary to make Hampton Township into a municipality comprising of parts of McCandless Township, Indiana Township and West Deer Township.
